Black House

Some 200 - 300 years ago in Amsterdam, poor people painted their houses black because they believed that if you are poor, you cannot afford to have your house cleaned because you don't have the money to keep it clean.

These houses are still present to this very day. In fact, the house where Rembradnt lived was painted in black. I never get the chance to go to his museum (I'll visit it next time) and because I know nada about his life, I think he was one of the poor during his times. I only got the chance to see where he last lived when we went for a bus tour around Amsterdam.

Anyway Rembradt is known worldwide and his paintings are worth a fortune but sadly he never get to enjoy the fruits of his labor. In relation to this, another famous artist, Van Gogh couldn't afford to buy materials to paint at all. He was financially supported by his younger brother Theo.

This made me thought, thank God I'm not an artist.
